Rabies.

Today I hung out with a bunch of orphans on Grand Anse beach. One of them bit me. It’s okay, she didn’t draw any blood. A baby also vomited on my sunglasses. That’s also okay.
The weather was great today. Actually, it’s been pretty phenomenal for the last few weeks. So breezy, low eighties, no humidity, bright and sunny.
Lola’s asleep in my bed right now.
I just got back from a little afternoon barbecue and birthday party. It was a lot of fun. Their house looks out on True Blue Bay. We did some dives and splashes off of their dock, played with dogs and gorged ourselves on some good food.

Ooops.

Walked right into that one.

Urgh.

Urgh.

I’ve been having really bad back pains recently. Many of you are probably aware that I’ve been dealing with back issues since a car accident in my late teens. Physical therapy for a few years resolved most of them. I only really notice the issue when sitting for extended periods of times. My sitting posture is awful and I’m sure it doesn’t help anything. It’s making it hell sitting through hours upon hours upon hours of lectures.

Plus, when I google image searched my name yesterday this was one of the matches…

I applied for a 10 week internship. I was accepted through the first round of qualifications, they sent me back a second questionnaire set. I sent that on in and they sent back an offer. I accepted it to confirm that I was willing to agree to the program. I think this means I have it but I’m still waiting to hear back to see if that is official or not.

Workin’ on it.

Workin' on it.

I’m working on a beard. This is the longest I’ve ever gone without shaving. I’m going to try to go to at least four weeks. It’s been two and a half so far.
I’m hoping it’ll impress the ladies.

Special occasion.

Special occasion.

There were moments today when I legitimately thought there was a decent chance I could die. At the very least I could’ve been seriously injured.
It ruled.

Bingo bango.

I’m in neuroscience. For the next few minutes I am going to try to blog everything this old fucker up on the podium says.
Here I go…

How about pupillary light?
Yeah, see, it’s the brainstem huh?
Mylencephalon involved to rostral colliculus..
Now, what if we have a facial nerve lesion?
Gonna work?
Not on the side that’s got the lesion, but yeah on the other.
[Fuck I can't keep up with this guy.]
So now the lesion has to be in the cerebellum, not the cortex.
Okay, so keep in mind, these are the things we want to do.
This is mesencephalon, not the cortex.
See the rostral colliculus? It’s going to do tectorecticular tract – tecum. It’s part of the visual tracking.
If he smells your hand he’s gonna follow you where you move it.
(He just told a story about visual tracking and laser pointers back in the 80’s…)
So what’s the deal about the menace response? You’ve just gotta memorize every spot along the way.
Now let’s deal with pupillary light reflex.
We’ve got two parts to that – a direct, the eye that you’re shining the light in. Source of light ot the eye.
When one pupil comes down the other should be coming down.
There should be consensual miosis.
Pupil constriction is parasympathetic innvervation — how’s that work?
Parasympathetic oculumotor nucleus in the preganglionic axon, neuron numberone. Axons are in cranial nerve three.
They synapse to the ciliary ganglion. THis is neuron number two.
This innvervates the constrictor pupilla muscle… then boom, miosis.
So, comes in optic track, down to pretectalm synapses, crosses over and goes out…
Also coming up here because of the optic chisma.. so two crosses.
So a lesion right here, no one constricts. Lesion here, one constricts.
So this guy goes here, he whams in.
This guy, in here, he whams in too.
So these guys go bilaterraly, go up in, bingo, constricture.
We’ll go over dilation in a minute — that’s part of sympathetic.
Primates and carnivores … rapid pupil constriction.
Ruminants and horses are… you flip the lights, you go out and you get a sandwich, you come back and they’re still workin’ on it.
They’re slow as snails.
Damn deer.
I knew my number was coming up, saw four dead deer on the side of the road…
Anyhow, that’s my aside, you don’t need to remember that.

I feel like I’m closing in on fluency having this combined with the dozen or so words and phrases I already know so far.

Less than I thought.

Less than I thought.

I have an immunology exam tomorrow morning. I slept for almost 14 hours today. I had all of these plans for the day too.. I was going to wake up early, make breakfast, study, go to the beach, come back and have lunch, study some more, go to the grocery store, go to Crystal’s to watch the Capitals game, come back, make dinner and study the rest of the night.
ISo far I woke up at like 9, made pancakes, ate them, and fell back asleep until 3PM. Woke up again, listened to a couple of albums in bed, studied for a little bit, hung outside Taylor pretending to study for a bit, made some stir fry, and wasted time on the internet while searching on the SGU iTunes network for someone with good taste in music.
I started eating Skittles down here. They’re pretty good.
I applied to some internships a week or so ago that I thought about doing. What happens in that regard will probably determine a lot of my summer.
I’ve decided that I “need” to buy a car here. There goes a few grand that I wanted to spend on other things. Fuck.

I’m moving into this house and I want someone to visit and hang out in the hammocks on the deck with me:

The best YouTube video I have ever seen.

I was going to hang myself after the whole Mandy Moore engagement news but this got me through…
